24th Annual Group Meeting of AICRP on Tuber Crops, organized by the AICRP on Tuber Crops, ASPEE College of Horticulture, Navsari was held at NAU during June 25-27, 2024. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel inaugurated this AGM in the gracious presence of Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, ADG as Chief Guest; Dr. G. Byju, Project Coordinator and Director CTCRI and Dr. T. R. Ahlawat, Director of Research as Guests of Honour; Dr. James George, Former Acting Director, ICAR - CTCRI & Former Project Coordinator; Dr. Archana Mukherjee, Former Director, ICAR – CTCRI and Dr. R. M. Naik, Principal & Dean, ASPEE College of Horticulture.
In the presidential address, Hon’ble VC highlighted the immense potential of tuber crops for Indian farmers. These crops are not only highly profitable and remunerative but also exhibit shade tolerance, ease of cultivation, high productivity and climate resilience. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining steady demand and reasonable prices, considering their nutritional and health benefits.
In the inaugural function, ‘Best Centre Award’ and three best revenue generation awards were conferred as well as three publications from AICRP on Tuber crops, NAU were released. In the farmers-scientists interaction session, certificates were distributed to progressive farmers of tuber crops of south Gujarat. Dr. C. G. Intwala, Professor & Head, Department of Vegetable Science and all the faculty members from the Department meticulously planned and executed the event, ensuring its grand success. Dr. Himani B. Patel, Principal Investigator of AICRP-TC, Navsari extended a formal vote of thanks.
