World Environment Day was celebrated by the N. M. College of Agriculture, ASPEE College of Horticulture, and College of Forestry, Navsari through various programs on June 5, 2024. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel, accompanied by Shri. Dakshaybhai Ahir- Sarpanch, villagers, University Officers, NCC cadets, and NSS volunteers, planted a tree at Bhutsad village to mark the occasion of tree planting.
Following the tree planting, Hon’ble VC presided over an awareness program on "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience". In his address, he emphasized the importance of daily environmental conservation and introduced the slogan, "Biochar Se Jamin Ka Upchar," promoting for the use of biochar to enhance soil health and fertility. He urged the students to actively promote this practice among the farming community to preserve soil quality and sustainability.
The program was held in the esteemed presence of Dr. R. M. Naik, DSW & Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Alka Singh, Dean, ACH; Dr. Lalit Mahatma, ADR; Dr. Minal Tandel, Dean CoF along with two speakers, Dr. K. D. Yadav and Prof. Varsha Shah from SVNIT, Surat, contributed valuable insights into environmental issues and solutions.
In addition to the awareness program, various activities and competitions such as quizzes, elocution, and poster making were organized for students to foster creativity and deepen their understanding of environmental themes. Hon’ble VC honored the winners with certificates. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 300 students and faculty members in the World Environment Day celebration.
