To mark the Celebration of the International Year of Millets-2023, the 'Millets Krishi Mela' was organized at Hill Millet Research Station, Waghai on September 03, 2023. The inaugural function of this Krishi mela was held in the esteemed presence of Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel as President of function; Dr. T. R. Ahlawat, DR & Dean PGS; Dr. N. M. Chauhan, DEE; Dr. J. J. Pastagia, Principal, CoA Waghai; Dr. H. E. Patil, Associate Research Scientist and scientists of Waghai campus.
The event aimed to raise awareness about improved millets cultivation technology, its pivotal role in value addition, and its significance in human nutrition. In this, Millet processing machines were distributed to the Nari Shakti Mahila Madal in Ahwa under the TSP project, IIMR, Hyderabad. Additionally, five separate MOUs were established with various Private/Cooperative organizations for the finger millet biofortified variety 'GIRA'.
Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor urged the tribal women's groups to engage in extensive value addition, aiming to enhance the socio-economic status of tribal farmers in Dangs. Additionally, he emphasized on the current imperative of marketing their products through diverse multimedia channels. He also encouraged tribal women farmers to expand the cultivation of these small millet crops.
Dr. H. E. Patil, Head HMRS, provided a concise overview of the activities and objectives of the 'Millets Krishi Mela'. A total of 720 farmers actively participated in this event.
