A Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) visited Main Cotton Research Station, Surat on November 28, 2023 to evaluate the progress of All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Cotton during the period from 2017-18 to 2023-24.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel accompanied the QRT during the visit. The team constituted of Dr. B. Venkateswaralu, Chairman (QRT) & Former Vice-Chancellor, VNMKV, Parbhani; Dr. Y. T. Yadaraju, member & Former Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur; Dr. S. S. Patil, member & Former Director of Research, UAS, Dharwad; Dr. Chandish Ballal, member & Former Director, ICAR-NBAIR, Bengaluru; Dr. A. J. Shaikh, member & Former Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai and Dr. Velmourgane, Member Secretary, QRT and ICAR-CICR, Nagpur.
Dr. Y. G. Prasad, Director, ICAR-CICR, Nagpur; Dr. Ganesh Behere, Nodel officer, AICRP on Cotton and Dr. S. Manickam, Principle Investigator (Pl. Breeding), ICAR-CICR, Coimbatore also visited the center with the QR Team.
The meeting started as per agenda approved by the chairman QRT with presentation on activities made under AICRP on Cotton for the period 2017-18 to 2023-24 at MCRS, Surat by Dr. M. C. Patel, Research Scientist (Cotton); Dr. M.G. Valu, I/C Research Scientist, JAU and Dr. Abhay Dashora, Assistant Professor, ARS, MPOUT, Banswara. Thorough discussion and interaction were made among the scientists on work done previously and to fix new aspects and agendas to solve the probable problems to be arising in cotton cultivation in central cotton zone, processing and maintenance of quality in future.
Hon’ble Vice-chancellor also made constructive suggestions for effective research activities. The delegates visited the field to observe exact position and condition of AICRP experiments of different disciplines as well as budded cotton garden maintained at MCRS, Surat. Valuable suggestions will boost up research activities at all the three AICRP centers.
