Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Navsari Agricultural University, Dr. R. M. Naik along with other dignitaries inaugurated a Bamboo Handicraft Unit and a Bamboo Tree House at the Bamboo Resource Centre. Farmers, artisans and students from different parts of Gujarat displayed a variety of bamboo products, handicrafts and innovative bamboo-based articles.

The programme was presided over by Dr. R. M. Naik, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Navsari Agricultural University; Shri Anand Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Bharuch Circle, Gujarat Forest Department honoured the occasion as Chief Guest; Shri Swapnil M. Sisle, IAS, Project Administrator, Navsari and Dr. R. C. Gadhvi, Registrar, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. Mrs. Urvashiben Prajapati, DCF, Navsari enhanced her presence in this occasion.

The programme was convened by Dr. M. B. Tandel, Dean, College of Forestry, NAU and organized by Dr. Jayesh Pathak, Principal Investigator, Bamboo Resource Centre and Associate Professor (Agroforestry), College of Forestry, NAU.

In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of bamboo in agroforestry, environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods, rural entrepreneurship and value addition. The programme brought together academicians, scientists, students, farmers, artisans and forest officials on a common platform for knowledge sharing and the promotion of bamboo-based activities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the College of Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University and the Interior Designing Institute, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University for sharing technical expertise with students of both institutions.

Around 300 participants from various sections of society attended the programme, including students of Navsari Agricultural University and Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat; farmers; Kotwalia artisans and officers and staff of the Gujarat Forest Department.

Certificates were distributed to participating students, farmers, artisans and other participants by the dignitaries.
