New Administrative Building of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Surat was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel on January 23, 2024 in the solemn presence of Dr. S. K. Roy, Director, ATARI, Zone-VIII, Pune; Mr. Jayeshbhai Patel, President of Olpad Choryasi Taluka Sangh & Director of Sumul, Surat; Dr. T. R. Ahlawat, Director of Research, NAU; Dr. N. M. Chauhan, DEE, NAU; Mr. Kirit Patel, Joint Director of Agriculture, Surat; Mr. Nitin Gamit, ATMA Project Director; Mr. D. K. Padalia, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Surat; Dr. Janak Rathod, Head, KVK Surat and other officers & staff of the NAU.
On this occasion, Hon’ble VC highlighted the pivotal role of KVKs in the empowerment of farmers. KVKs serve as a crucial link between farmers and consumers, facilitating a direct connection that is vital for agricultural progress. Hon’ble VC further urged KVK scientists to guide farmers towards embracing natural farming practices, emphasizing sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches. He emphasized that KVKs function as a robust platform to address the challenges faced by farmers, on issues related to seeds, soil health, fertilizers, insect pests, and diseases.
The event featured 15 exhibition stalls showcasing diverse activities related to horticulture, natural farming, honeybee cultivation, mushroom cultivation, and other Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The exhibits provided valuable insights into various agricultural practices and initiatives. Additionally, 20 farmers specializing in different fields of agriculture were honored by distinguished guests, receiving tokens of appreciation in the form of mementos and certificates.
As a part of the program, dignitaries unveiled three publications, namely the KVK Newsletter, KVK ek Parichay (Introduction to KVK), and a book focusing on Dairy Farming. These publications serve as valuable resources to disseminate knowledge and information among the farming community. The event garnered significant attendance, with approximately 800 farmers and extension workers actively participating and contributing to the success of the function.
