Gujarat’s first ever medium term seed conservation facility “Seed bank“ alongwith “seed storage godown"
Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Z. P. Patel laid the foundation stone of Gujarat’s first ever medium term seed conservation facility “Seed bank“ alongwith “seed storage godown” at Megaseed, Pulses and castor research Unit, Navsari on February 20, 2025, in the presence of Dr. T. R. Ahlawat, Director of Research; Dr Hemant Sharma, Director of Extension Education; Prof. Jaimin Naik, Director of students welfare; Dr. Vipul Shinde, Executive Engineer; Dr. R M Naik, Principal and Dean, N M College of Agriculture; Dr. Minal tandel, Principal and Dean College of forestry, Dr. O P Sharma , Principal and Dean College of Agribusiness management; Dr. V R Naik, Associate Director of Research; Dr. Lalit mahatma, Associate Director of Research; Dr. C G intwala, Librarian & Research Scientist and Dr. D A Chauhan, Nodal officer & unit head, PCRS alongwith other faculty & staff of Navsari Campus.
These new infrastructures will significantly contribute to enhance the research activities and developmental work of all the different crop scientist of NAU working on various crops. Further this seed conservation facility will also beneficial for horticultural crops as well as precious seed conservation to maintain the rolling seed chain. This facilities will also be utilized for local land races and prevent it from extinction. Ultimately this will play a huge role in the conservation of crop diversity of South Gujarat.
